What made the jury go WOW?
The joy that some of the entries to WOW Awards 2010 gave the jury was evident at the jury meet. The four jury members physically present spent the day deliberating each of the shortlists. Three jury members from out of Mumbai joined in on a never-ending conference call. The seven agreed, disagreed, debated, deliberated, listened, and finally, decided. The Gold, Silver and Bronze WOWs for 2010, in 32 categories, were decided by 8 pm on March 6, 2010. Even the shortlists, arrived at through the average of individual scores given by each jury member to each entry, were contested in some categories - where one or more jury members thought that an entry which didn’t make it on the basis of scores deserved to have made the cut. Those entries were re-opened for debate. The involvement of the jury was complete and intense. The depth of thought applied to each entry ensured that not too many were awarded metal at the end. As time went by, some Golds were reduced to Silvers and Bronzes; some Bronzes dropped off the list; a rare Silver climbed up to claim Gold. If the entries could have been humanised, the entire process would have made for a fantastic reality show!

About WOW Awards
When we launched the first ever awards for events and experiential marketing, WOW Awards, in November-December 2008, we honestly didn’t expect the overwhelming response it received. Filled with a deep sense of gratitude, and a responsibility to live up to expectations of entrants, we did the best we could, as transparently and as honestly as possible. But there is always scope to improve.

Learnings from the first edition will have enriched the process this year, and we trust that it will be experienced by entrants to WOW Awards 2010, scheduled to culminate in March.
Now in its second year, the awards property has the responsibility of staying credible, more than anything else, while also reaching out to a wider base of entrants. The only platform of recognition for excellence in live brand experiences - read events and experiential marketing - is back. With a promise to be even better.

Evolved categories; Enhanced jury expectations
An interesting range of feedback has come in from last year’s entrants and the jury, over the last 12 months, to help shape WOW Awards 2010. But the spirit and soul of the awards hasn’t changed one bit. Neither the Convenor nor the team at EVENTFAQS will judge entries. That will remain the prerogative of the esteemed jury. And like last year, the jury will comprise seasoned marketing professionals from diverse industry segments. As for a jury chairman, the jury is out on that one - pun unintended. By the time readers get their hands on this issue, the jury announcements should be pouring in at www.eventfaqs.com.
