Madhya Pradesh to Build First City Museum in Bhopal, Unveiled on International Museum Day

In conjunction with International Museum Day, Madhya Pradesh proudly announces the opening of its first City Museum in Bhopal, located within the Moti Mahal. This significant initiative, supported by the Government of India and managed by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, underscores the state's dedication to preserving and showcasing its rich cultural heritage.

Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture and Managing Director of the Tourism Board, expressed enthusiasm for this project, which aims to attract heritage and culture enthusiasts. The Bhopal City Museum features 11 galleries that narrate the comprehensive history of Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh, from geological origins to contemporary developments.

The museum distinguishes itself through the use of modern technology to create an engaging visitor experience. Exhibits include prehistoric rock paintings, archaeological finds, royal attire from Bhopal's past monarchs, and art from the Nawabi era. Additionally, plans are underway by the Madhya Pradesh Ministry of Culture and Tourism to establish a museum honoring Parmar King Raja Bhoj, further enriching the cultural landscape of Moti Mahal.

In addition to the City Museum, the Tribal Museum in Bhopal emerges as a significant cultural site. It showcases seven authentic homes representing the Gond, Bhil, Baiga, Korku, Bharia, Sahariya, and Kol communities. These houses will host tribal families on a rotational basis for three to six months, providing visitors with an authentic look into tribal lifestyles. Each home reflects traditional architecture and cultural artifacts, offering insights into the rich tribal heritage of the state.

Shukla emphasized the importance of the museum in fostering understanding and appreciation of tribal societies. The Tribal Museum is scheduled to open on June 6, 2024, offering a meaningful cultural experience.

Looking ahead, Madhya Pradesh plans to develop a series of theme-based museums at key heritage sites, further enhancing the tourism experience and solidifying its role as a custodian of cultural legacy.
