Netflix NFL Christmas Day Games
Netflix is reportedly set to air two National Football League games this Christmas Day, marking the streaming giant's significant venture into live events. This three-year deal will also see Netflix host at least one Christmas Day game in both 2025 and 2026.
Netflix executives are enthusiastic about a Christmas Day event that could attract millions of viewers simultaneously. NFL games are the biggest draw for both viewers and advertisers in the US, consistently accounting for most of the top live TV broadcasts each year.
Bela Bajaria, Chief Content Officer, Netflix said, “Last year, we decided to take a big bet on live — tapping into massive fandoms across comedy, reality TV, sports, and more. There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts. We’re so excited that the NFL’s Christmas Day games will be only on Netflix.”
This deal marks the first time Netflix has secured rights to a premier sports competition and the first time it will broadcast live football, the most popular sport in the US. The company will reportedly pay less than $150 million per game, according to sources familiar with the deal who requested anonymity due to the private nature of the terms. Both Netflix and the NFL declined to comment.
