Heritage monuments at six tourist spots in Madhya Pradesh may take shape of high-end hotels as the state government contemplates to attract investment from hoteliers for heritage properties.

A hospitality group, which owns more than a dozen heritage hotels in the country along with another private company in the hospitality sector, has taken on the task of converting two heritage properties in Chanderi into hotels.

The Raja Rani Mahal and Singhpur Mahal in Chanderi are set to undergo this transformation, with each project requiring an investment exceeding Rs 10 crore.

Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Tourism and Culture Department Principal Secretary, said, “By repurposing these historic sites into modern hotels, the state aims to not only preserve its rich heritage but also boost tourism and create job prospects in the hospitality sector. The move is part of state government’s broader strategy to leverage its cultural heritage for economic development and tourism growth.”

This initiative is expected to provide a unique opportunity for investors in the hospitality industry to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Madhya Pradesh’s cultural legacy while also tapping into the growing tourism market in the region, said Shukla.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has identified additional heritage properties for potential hotel conversions, including Malkolam Kothi near Mandu, Laxmipur Palace near Panna Tiger Reserve, and two other properties in Bhopal and Tikamgarh.

The tourist inflow in the state saw a huge spike post the inauguration of the Mahakal Lok in the temple city. Pinning hopes on increased tourist footfall in the state, the board is upgrading and adding new facilities at potential tourist spots.
