Bollywood singer KK dies after a concert in Kolkata on May 31

Bollywood playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away hours after his live performance at Kolkata's Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday night, May 31. 

After the show, he reportedly complained of feeling extremely cold and wanted to return to his hotel. He collapsed at the hotel and rushed to a Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Condolences have been pouring in from the Bollywood and music industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his condolences. "Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti," he wrote.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee paid her last respects with gun salute to singer #KK at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata. His family will take his mortal remains back to Mumbai today, by late evening post which the last rites of the singer will be performed. KK's funeral will be held tomorrow. 

KK released his first album, Pal in 1999. The singer-composer was more focussed on Bollywood than on his independent music, giving hits such as Tadap Tadap (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam), Dus Bahane (Dus), Aankhon Mein Teri Ajab Si (Om Shanti Om), and Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai (Gangster).

The 53-year-old versatile singer has recorded songs in several languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, and Bengali, among others.
