Zee Live has announced the launch of India Shayari Project, an IP rooted celebrating poetry, to be streamed on Zee5 on 15 August 2021.

The inaugural edition will be hosted without an in-person audience. It will feature poet, scriptwriter, and lyricist Javed Akhtar, film and TV screen-writer and lyricist Kausar Munir, writer and communicator Dr. Kumar Vishwas and comedian Zakir Khan.

Those with a Zee5 subscription can view the event on the app from India. Those buying a ticket (at Rs.499 each, on Insider) will get a year’s subscription to the OTT service free. Zee5 is currently available through an annual offer at Rs.499.

Akhtar will headline the inaugural edition, informed a Zee Live statement. He will speak on his journey in the world of poetry and the close-knit bond it shares with Indian cinema. He will also shed light on the changes he has seen in poets and their written word and the country’s rich poetic legacy, amongst other topics.

On the project, Akhtar said, “India has been a country of many great poets and shayars. It is heartening to see the youth wants to embrace and understand the beauty and nuances of the spoken word.”

He added that poetry allows the space and platform to represent oneself authentically, while social media has fast become a tool empowering youth to express themselves in myriad ways.

“It is always a pleasure to be a part of something innovative as shayari as that is my passion and the essence of who I am and am elated to associate with India Shayari Project,” he added.

Will feature Javed Akhtar, Kausar Munir, Kumar Vishwas and Zakir Khan; tickets at Rs.499 apiece bundled with annual subscription to OTT app.
