PM to Flag off Padyatra from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad Today to Launch ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’

The Government of India is all set to organize a series of events to commemorate the 75thAnniversary of India’s Independence as ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ beginning from March 12, 2021 to August 15, 2022. State Governments and Union Territories will also organize programmes on March 12, 2021.
Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture & Tourism has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ by flagging off a ‘Padyatra’ from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad - from where Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March began - on March 12.
The Minister said that Mahatma Gandhi along with 81 persons had initiated the famous Dandi Padyatra from March 12to April 6, 1930. The ‘Padyatra’flagged off by the Prime Minister on March 12 will cover a distance of 241 miles from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad to Dandi in Navsari and will end on April 5, 2021, lasting for 25 days. Eighty-one marchers will participate in the ‘Padyatra’ and different groups of people will be joining it on the way to Dandi. Patel also announced that he will lead the first lap of 75 kilometers of the ‘Padyatra’.
During the ‘Padyatra’, the Culture Minister will stay overnight with the ‘Padyatris’ at the place of night halt and resume walking from the same place the next day. Patel will meet and interact with local people at the place of night stay.
Weekly events will be organized during the forthcoming 75 weeks up to August 15, 2022 for ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’. To ensure the involvement of all citizens in it, various programmes will be organized as per their interest with the Ministry of Culture in a supporting role.
