Malaysia’s Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau
Malaysia’s Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), a state bureau established to develop business events and meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry in Penang, recently conducted its fourth annual Penang Roadshow in India for travel agents in four cities - Kochi, Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai. This year, the show was carried out in a hybrid format wherein it was virtually streamed followed by a Penang Night special dinner hosted for the Indian travel agents.
The roadshow began in Kochi on January 18, the Penang delegation then continued to Chennai on January 20, New Delhi on January 22 and Mumbai on January 25 with the objective of promoting Penang as the preferred destination for corporate and association meetings, conferences, and incentive and leisure travel.
The virtual business meet connected Penang and Malaysian sellers to qualified Indian buyers from different industry segments including business events, leisure travel, weddings, team building events and filming.
The show had a total of 25 registered sellers from Penang and the larger Malaysia travel and business events industry, and welcomed more than 200 buyers in total.
Addressing the Indian travel trade members were the Chief Minister of Penang, the Penang State Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, and the CEO of Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau who were present ‘virtually’.
“I believe we can return to the form of India being among the Top 5 markets for business events in Penang if we continue to work together to build the business. The partners and participants for the roadshow who are present show our commitment in ensuring the sustainability of the India-Penang travel business,” said Ashwin Gunasekeran, CEO of PCEB.
Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, said, “Penang is ready to welcome you and all Indian travellers back to Penang. We look forward to the day that you could personally indulge yourselves in the best that Penang has to offer; from its amazing food to our worldclass hospitality.”
“The business events industry’s resilience is truly inspiring and I believe the industry will rebuild itself faster through a positive momentum set by the bureau and the business events Penang industry players. Understanding that, the Penang State Government has also taken a number of initiatives to help the industry recover, which also includes a three-year Business Events Penang Rejuvenation Plan 2021-2023,” shared Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang.
The roadshow was in hybrid format - it was virtually streamed followed by a Penang Night special dinner hosted for Indian travel agents in Kochi, Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai.
