PM to Flag Off Inaugural Event of Netaji’s Year-long 125th Birth Anniversary Celebrations on Jan 23

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the inaugural event to mark the commencement of year-long 125th birth anniversary celebrations of stalwart freedom-fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Victoria Memorial, Kolkata on January 23, 2020. He will also felicitate prominent members of the Indian National Army, formed by Bose, and their family members at the event.
The Government has decided to celebrate January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as ‘Parakram Diwas’ every year.
During the event in Kolkata, a permanent exhibition on Netaji and a Projection Mapping Show will be inaugurated and a commemorative coin and postage stamp will also be released. Later, a cultural programme named ‘Amra Nuton Jouboneri Doot’ will be held based on the theme of Netaji and an International Conference ‘Re-visiting the legacy of Netaji Subhash in 21st century’ along with an Artistes' Camp will be organized at National Library, Kolkata on the same day.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will organise a programme at Netaji’s birthplace in Cuttack too. Other ministries have also proposed activities to commemorate the occasion. Among the proposals are a football tournament and marathons organised by the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry, the inclusion of the tune ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’ in the Beating Retreat ceremony by the Defence Ministry, the painting of some Air India aircraft with Bose’s images by the Civil Aviation Ministry and naming of an express train after Netaji by the Railway Ministry.
A high-level committee, headed by the PM, has been constituted to decide on the programmes and to supervise and guide the commemoration celebrations throughout the year. The committee will provide guidance for the commemoration activities at Delhi, Kolkata and other places associated with Netaji and the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj) in India as well as overseas.
