The premiere edition of the ‘Sunburn Home Festival’, a virtual two-day electronic dance music (EDM) festival, saw a global reach of 5 Million viewers online on July 11th – 12th 2020. The festival’s artiste line-up included ViniVici, MATTN, Bassjackers, and UmmetOzcan, who entertained audiences in a Virtual XR Mixed Reality environment.

It was a ticketed event that was streamed live. It offered a 360-degree virtual experience of an on-ground Sunburn Festival, including a mega stage, SFX, vibrant visuals, LED effects, and state-of-the-art AV, informed a statement from organizers.

It added that the highlight was the incorporation of Extended Reality (XR) Technology, which offered a Mixed Reality (MR) environment by combining the Sunburn Festival atmosphere and human-machine interaction to generate a new form of reality for fans. The main stage displayed laser SFX on a pyramid style structure that was reminiscent of pipe organs in ancient cathedrals, while the after-dark parties saw a contemporary cubicle tunnel stage design.

EDM producer and DJ Ankytrixx said, “Well as much as I miss the intimate dance gatherings, I’m glad we have an avenue such as ‘live streams’ which is the only source of connection for me and my musical friends all over the country. I’m delighted we get an opportunity to entertain virtually which helps lift people’s spirits during the current scenario. Mega props to Sunburn for going a few notches up by presenting something conceptual, extravagant, and futuristic. I had a ball of a time playing for everyone, and especially when there’s a performance fee attached to it. So Thankful!”

Progressive Brothers said, “It was an amazing experience to be a part of the first virtual festival in India, we received so many messages from our fans that they loved the whole experience.”

Producer and DJ Siana Catherine said, “Thank you Sunburn Festival and team for creating this beautiful opportunity for artistes around the world. It was a great experience reconnecting with our fans again.”

Music producer and DJ Sartek added, “Performing for the home edition of the Sunburn Festival was probably the closest we could get to an actual live festival experience. I had the best time, I danced more than I could've ever imagined from behind my console at home!”

Amar Sinha, Chief Operating Officer, Radico Khaitan, stated, “Music lovers have shown immense love for Sunburn over the years and our past associations with Asia's biggest music festival have been extremely fruitful. In spite of the country-wide lockdown, Sunburn managed to innovate, re-invent and establish great youth engagement online through its very first Home Festival. When I heard of Sunburn going virtual I was apprehensive, but I must say that the state-of-the-art XR Technology coupled with a phenomenal artiste line-up became a game-changer in the virtual music festival space. For those who are looking for options to brighten up their weekend, this virtual music festival – with a terrific artist line-up – is a great way to unwind."

Karan Singh, Chief Operating Officer, Percept Live, said, “Our very first edition of the Sunburn Home Festival exceeded our expectations. With a massive global reach of 5 million, India’s first virtual festival can be labeled a terrific success. The fantastic feedback received on the XR Technology employed and the surreal festival atmosphere experienced virtually by our fans has reinforced our conviction that this is the next phase of home entertainment. We are extremely thankful to our artistes, sponsors, and partners for supporting us wholeheartedly in our endeavor. This was only the first in a series of virtual music festivals that we are planning to host in the coming months, so fans can definitely look forward to an electrifying artiste line-up and some very exciting announcements soon.”
