XP&D recently executed the launch of the All-New Mercedes-Benz GLS on June 17th, 2020 at the Mercedes plant, Pune. Looking at the current pandemic situations and strict government rules, this car launch was a no audience event with a physical set up. As it was the 1st ever hybrid-virtual event during COVID-19, they planned the event as a TV show to keep the audience engaged.
XP&D delivered three different studio sets with a fixed camera setup that covered the studio from all angles to give viewers a real-life experience. Two studios were set up at the center of excellence within the Mercedes plant and one studio outside it with three different screen themes. The car launch was a widely watched 50 minutes event on Mercedes's social media platform.
The event started with a chat show featuring Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes India who spoke about the current time, the production in the times of COVID, and more. The event geared up when Santosh Iyer, Vice President- Marketing, Mercedes India did an entire product walkthrough by getting into the car and showing all its new features. Later, Amit Kalyani, Deputy Managing Director, Bharat Forge one of MB India's most valued customers talked about new innovations.
XP&D had to follow very strict social distancing norms and government protocol which made it very challenging as it was not like any regular on-ground event. They provided their crew with PPE kits, did markings at the console and entire event area to maintain social distancing, did pre-event and post-event sanitization, and also did equipment sanitization.
Chanda Singh, CEO, XP&D, “This was the first on-ground event after the lockdown relaxation, it was very unique for us at XP&D because we had to ensure we follow all the social distancing protocol and the directives by the Government. We had to ensure that the utmost safety precautions are taken and ensure health insurance for everyone working on this project. Virtual events and webinars don’t bring about the same experience one wants to feel when they are live at an event. This kind of event is still not 100 percent there but this is a beginning which made it special for us. We thank Mercedes-Benz India for believing in us and execute this offline+online combination project in the current situation and environment. It wasn’t easy for sure but it gives us a lot of positivity for a bright future ahead. And we thank our trusted partners for the successful execution while ensuring they follow all safety protocols and social distancing norms.”
