In their fourth collaboration together, Christian Louboutin and Sabyasachi Mukherjee combined their creative synergy in producing a beautiful amalgamation of Indian and Parisian style craftsmanship. Sabyasachi’s Fall-Winter 2019 collection celebrated 20 years of his design expertise by drawing inspiration from his first collection ‘Kashgaar Bazaar’.

Imagined wholly by gypsies, global nomads and performing artists; the collection is whimsically regal and perfectly paired with a striking array of women’s and men’s shoes and bags, created in collaboration with Christian Louboutin. In a variety of materials embellished with hand-sewn embroidery and sequins, the result is a great homage to Christian Louboutin and Sabyasachi’s style notes.

Reminiscing his two decades in the industry, Sabyasachi Mukherjee said, "In the summer of ’99, I graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Calcutta. My graduation collection was called Kashgaar Bazaar – inspired by global nomads, gypsies, prostitutes, performing artists and my imagination of the Silk Route. In 2019, as I celebrate 20 years of the brand, I present Kashgaar Bazaar to my global audience. In retrospect. Featuring an exclusive collection of shoes and handbags in collaboration with Christian Louboutin.”

For this collaboration Christian Louboutin created a statement with its intricate and bold prints on the Espadrille and the Jessica knee-high boots. “Drawing inspiration from my first design collection – Kashgaar Bazaar – this collaboration explores the conflict between cultures, colours, textiles, and crafts. Under the overarching theme of rustic baroque, the entire collection is a patchwork of different textile influences derived from the Silk Route, strung together in an organic manner with beads, sequins, tinsel and silk thread. With a focus on resort and glamping, acid-burnt textiles, mirror-work, phulkari, zardosi, and inspirational techniques and motifs from Central Asian carpets constitute the foundation of the Christian Louboutin x Sabyasachi collaboration capsule, that has a potent tribal yet cosmopolitan energy,” added the veteran designer.

Carefully constructed to match the artisanal vegetable-dyed prints, brocades, and casement, the Sakouette women’s and the Dandelion men’s loafers took centerstage on the runway in Napa and rich embroidered prints making them the perfect classic flat shoes for traditional Indian weddings.

From the men’s collection, the Crestflat, assembled in the softest Napa leather with a belted ankle support, makes a great pairing with any Indian formal menswear attire. The women’s bag collection saw the Marie Jane bucket in exclusive styles for India.

70 EMG conceptualized and brought alive this dream through a set design that depicted Sabyasachi’s life and personal moments/memorabilia.
