Mumbai Juniorthon Sparked Up its Season 4 with One Goal ‘Everyone is a Winner’

Mumbai Juniorthon, the largest under 15 kids run in Mumbai is the Intellectual Property of Party Sharty Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Juniorthon has created a fitness rage amongst kids and parents with its fourth edition in Mumbai which was held on February 3, 2019, at MMRDA Ground, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, and will be going multi-city with its first edition in Pune and Bangalore in 2019.

With more than 20 partners every season they have been able to retain their key sponsors including their Title Sponsor, Radius Developers. The event is powered By – Soulfull Ragi Bites. One of the challenges faced this time for the team was getting registrations. This year Mumbai Juniorthon was scheduled for just 2 days before Christmas and a lot of families were travelling out of town for a vacation. They received many calls and messages from parents asking to re-schedule the event on a later date which was not possible considering the venue and other vendors were already booked. Nevertheless, they managed to pull in a lot of participation with a Christmas themed Carnival that was followed after the run.

Another challenge was the safety of the kids. They wanted the junior runners to get a firsthand experience of a professional marathon and hence conducted the run on asphalt streets and not parks or stadiums like it’s done for a school sports day. Hence, managing the safety and security of 4000 kids was a big challenge. They made the kids understand that long distance running is not a sprint and they need to pace themselves. They tried and kept the route for the run as safe as possible by blocking any vehicular movement from 05:00 am to the finish of the last race. Hundreds of volunteers and security personnel were deployed on the route to ensure the safety of the kids.

Juniorthon is categorised to accommodate various levels of runners considering age and distance. To support a good cause and promote a healthier future for children, the goal of this marathon is to discourage the overuse of gadgets and encourage them to come out and play outdoor, facilitating visual development and engagement with the community.

The benefits of sowing the fitness seed at a very young age are far-reaching. Healthy habits in childhood are responsible for a healthy future.

Lack of outdoor activities has led to a rise in childhood obesity and other related diseases in India. Children are more vulnerable to Vitamin D deficiency, depression, and chronic weight-related diseases due to their inactive lifestyles. Childhood obesity has doubled in India; more than 15 million children are estimated to be overweight in urban India. 90% of children and teenager in Mumbai are addicted to mobiles and internet gaming. Every child needs to play outdoors for his or her physical, social and emotional wellbeing.
To encourage them to involve in physical activity and cultivate the behaviour for exercise and outdoor activities Juniorthon 2019, flagged off its 4th season, establishing itself not only as the largest Kids marathon in Mumbai but also as a community project supported by parents and the entire family. The run encourages children to participate without worrying about winning or losing, as it awards every child with a ‘Finishers medal’ for completing the run. Juniorthon’s core purpose is to urge children to go outdoors and activate their sedentary lifestyle by giving them an opportunity to set out and accomplish the goal of running. Also, encouraging them to participate in the ‘act of giving’ thus enabling them to be sensitive to their surroundings and take responsibility. A part of the proceedings from the registrations was donated to ‘Smile Foundation’ for ‘Right to Education Programme’ for the underprivileged kids.

"Idea is to make fitness a priority for every child and more so in this digital age. The goal is to get children outdoors and make running as an active lifestyle for the entire family.  Running as a sport doesn’t require any gear or equipment and it’s the best way to stay fit and can be done together as a family. The event saw over 4000 participants conquering the streets of BKC in the wee hours of Mumbai. With a total crowd of over 12000 people queuing up at various stalls of the Carnival cum Fitness Expo area. It was indeed a Happy Sunday with a Healthy Family!, " says Bhavna Mehta, Director, Party Sharty Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.

'Juniorthon' an IP of Party Sharty Entertainment was held on February 3, 2019 at MMRD Ground, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
