Jaipur Pink Panthers have played the past five seasons at their home venue, SMS Stadium, Jaipur. For the 6th edition of Pro Kabaddi, the franchise had to shift to Panchkula for their home games. The home leg was scheduled from December 14th to December 20th 2018 at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula.
As the league started to come towards an end, Jaipur Pink Panthers’ home leg closed in and was scheduled to be the second last league stage venue. In the month of December, Panchkula saw low temperatures which made the management of the venue, challenging and tough. Tau Devi Lal Stadium was looking at Pro Kabaddi for the first time and allotment of the spaces were to be done according to the spaces available at the sports complex.
GS team did an early recce immediately after the announcement of the venue by the league and the franchise authorities for Jaipur Pink Panthers. Early planning gave the venue team an advantage while executing. The team acquired the stadium 4 days prior to the event date of commencement. A practice area was set up for the kabaddi teams to practice on rest days. This was set up at the badminton hall of the stadium facility.
Allotment of branding spaces to the central and franchise sponsors was done and respective pieces were put up to create the look and feel of the stadium. The venue had a capacity of 2880 seating for the games. A separate bleacher was constructed to accommodate VVIP guests like the franchise owner, Abhishek Bachchan among others. Due to low temperatures during the event, security and other manpower faced a challenge to work during match timings. Prior planning and kitting kept the teams to work efficiently.
Jaipur Pink Panthers won two matches and tied 2 out of the 6 total matches at their home venue. Abhishek Bachchan was present for 5 matches and supported the team with his presence. The team is out of the play-offs race but received good support at Panchkula and the experience has been very good for the city as Pro Kabaddi had come for the first time to the city.
Quoting on the event, Chairman of GS Worldwide Entertainment, Mr. Bunty Walia said, “Panchkula has been an ideal venue for kabaddi this year. We were initially anxious on how the response will be for Kabaddi here. The home support counts a lot for the team and the venue did justice with all the cheers and roars for the Jaipur Pink Panthers. The cold weather was a challenge for both, the playing team and the management team, but we tackled it good and there were no stones left unturned to produce a great show.”
