A hattrick moment for India’s Permanent Mission to UN, as this year the United Nations Headquarters in New York was illuminated to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2018. And an even more proud moment was for Showtime Events (India) Pvt Ltd, who were awarded with the mission to create a very special Laser Projection Film on Yoga, which was projected onto the surface of the 154-metre (505 ft) tall skyscraper – the United Nations Secretariat Building, located in the Turtle Bay in Midtown Manhattan area of Manhattan, in New York City - a spectacle that was visible from several parts of the throbbing city, from June 19 through June 21, 2018. The north façade of the building shone in bright hues of red and blue throughout the night while the laser film played on for the audiences.
This year's highlight was the laser film projection as a unique way of celebration which included a storyboard illustrate and highlighted the key aspects of Yoga Sadhana. Apart from that, several other events were also planned by India’s Permanent Mission to the UN as well as the Indian Consulate to mark the day.
Recognizing Yoga's universal appeal, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
Mr. Syed Akbaruddin, India’s Ambassador & Permanent Representative to the United Nations, tweeted (@AkbaruddinIndia) a video of the inaugural event, pictures and a “Thank You” message to all who made the UN International Day of Yoga 2018 truly global.
