The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on November 28, 2017, announced that it will be hosting its very own T20 Cricket League which will be played from January 4 to 9, 2018. It is believed that the inaugural edition of the league is likely to see six teams competing in a round robin-cum-knockout format. The various matches of the tournament will be played at venues like the Wankhede Stadium, Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Bandra Kurla Complex, and the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivali.
The association had previously called for Expression of Interests (EOI) from agencies for exclusive management of the T20 League for a period of five years. It is reported that a total of 4 agencies submitted their EOIs following which the deciding committee unanimously appointed the consortium of IIFL Group/Associates and Wizcraft group as the sole agency for exclusive management of the T20 League.
The newly announced T20 league is believed to be on the lines of regional leagues hosted by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It had been in the pipeline for the last five years and has been revived by the MCA president Ashish Shelar after taking over the association’s reins from Sharad Pawar.
