Every wedding today features innumerable functions leading up to the big day. According to wedding designer Aashna Singh, "The most common misconception that people have is that the more functions there are, the bigger the hole in their pockets. By adopting a DIY attitude, you don’t just save money but also have the power to customize every little detail."
Designer Aashna Singh’s recent roka ceremony was held in the familiarity of her own home as she wanted to ensure a warm and intimate feel in her Roka. She says, “Choosing a colour scheme is a good start. By having a palette to work with, you immediately begin to visualize what the space could look like.”
“My roka was coloured with my favourite shades of pink; right from the canopy of bougainvillea and the chandelier rose arrangement created using readily available flowers and twine."
The good thing about customizing is that everything can be mae according to the client requirement and preference.
"For my Roka, we created a big personalized bar but yet pai attention to small details like having the engagement rings engraved. Each such detail adds to the intimacy of the celebration," she added.
Adding accent pieces allows one to brighten up any space. Décor accents in the form of personalized boards with quirky messages or a wedding hashtag add a personal touch, making it all the more special.
“It is important to remember to assess the space you are working with and maximise it. The niches in the walls of my home served to be a natural gallery – printing out my favourite memories and placing them there proved to be a great topic of conversation too!," said Singh.
Small details are never to be ignored, right down to the decorating of the ring thali and gifts, packaging design.
The Mumbai based wedding designer and the owner of Aash Studio speaks about DIY decor and gives advice on delightful budget-friendly decor ideas.
