When it comes to quantifying the game of cricket in the Indian context, one can say that we watch and play the game for the first six months and talk about it for the next six. The gentleman’s game truly has a firm grasp on the imagination of over a billion people, with the game being followed like a religion and cricketers being worshiped like demi-gods.
YES Bank, India’s fifth largest private sector bank, launched the 3rd edition of YES Bank Premier League (YBPL) on April 17, 2017. The tournament is India’s Premier Cricket Tournament for MSME’s & business associates. This prestigious tournament, travelling across 8 locations – Mumbai, Delhi, Ludhiana, Surat, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai, is being managed by Woot Factor Events. YES Bank, which is also an associate sponsor of the Vivo Indian Premier League, conceptualized this unique engagement for the community, to bring the flavour of cricket to its esteemed clients during the IPL season.
The YES Bank Premier League was kick-started in Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra, on the April 15, at the picturesque Mulshi Cricket Ground. The inaugural chapter witnessed 16 teams participating in the cricketing contest. After a tough day’s play, Hyundai CE and Chemist Association of Pune District fought in the finals for the prestigious cup. This closely contested match was won by Hyundai CE, who became the first champion of the Pune chapter of YBPL. Sumit Pawar from Hyundai CE was adjudged the Most Valuable Player for his outstanding batting performance.
The cricketing caravan then travelled 150 kms to reach Mumbai. The tournament was conducted on April 22 at the Holy Family High School. Every match went down to the wire with the finale witnessing a nail-biting finish between Ashok Leyland and WIRC, Borivali. Ankush Akshay Largi was pronounced as the Man of the Series as he single handedly took his team Ashok Leyland to the pinnacle of victory.
Surat, the diamond city of India, was the next pit-stop of the YES Bank Premier League’s cricketing convoy. It was the second time the tournament was being played at the location. The tournament was played at the exclusive facilities of Hare Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd that boasted of world class arrangements with a batting friendly wicket and plush outfield. The sporting extravaganza in Surat witnessed a great contest between the bat and the ball, wherein Navjivan Hyundai convincingly beat the defending champions, Kataria Automobiles to win the coveted tournament. An all-round performance with both bat and ball saw Sunny Desai taking home the Man of the Series tournament at Surat. Overwhelmed by the entire arrangement, Pravinbhai Vekariya, President, Surat Chemists & Druggist Association said, “This is an excellent opportunity for us to bond with our members of association over a cricket match. It is also an opportunity for us to de-stress ourselves as on a daily basis we are only involved in our business activities”.
Post the end of the first leg of YES Bank Premier League, YES Bank extended its warm gratitude to their sponsors including Hyundai in association with BSE SME (Powered By Sponsors), Force Sports (Merchandise Sponsor) and EVENTFAQS being the community sponsor for the sporting League.
