The second edition of Meet d3, Dubai Design District’s community event, saw guests enjoy three days of UAE-based, regional and international talent including must-see installations and experiences across fashion and lifestyle, food and beverage, family activities, music and entertainment, and a host of Emirati talent in a range of design areas. With over 31 participants from the GCC and 19 from the UAE, Meet d3 proved to be an important platform for the region’s creative talent. The festival took place from December 8 to 10 in the Design Quarter of Dubai Design District.

Throughout the three days of Meet d3 2016, the Dubai Design District hosted 29 art installations and activations, 18 musical performers from the Middle East and internationally, six family-specific experiences just for children, 14 food & beverage destinations, and 55 retail partners across a range of design disciplines. Over 50,000 people visited the event, almost double the attendance of the previous year’s event.

Meet d3 has become a key symbol for Dubai Design District’s goal – that being committed to development of the design industry here in the region and supporting, as well as exposing, talent locally and internationally, will position Dubai as a truly global design hub as well as supporting the larger level goal of the Dubai 2021 vision.

“Meet d3, in its second year, demonstrated the diversity and innovation of Dubai as a primary destination for creativity from the UAE, the region, and the world,” said Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, Chief Operating Officer, d3.  “We have brought together some of the most creative minds in the Emirates, the wider region and all parts of the international design space to celebrate the collaboration and growth opportunities for both the business partners who call d3 their home as well as exceptional talent from across the globe. d3 presented Dubai and the region with something unique and a very different experience – not only just fun, but engaging, interactive and inspirational”.

As a community, Dubai Design District celebrates creativity, not only exclusively within its own design community, but across the wider general public – Meet d3 demonstrated that creativity transcends everyone and can touch everyone’s senses, irrespective of age, ethnicity, demographic or background.

On managing the event, Girish Anil Bhat, Managing Director, Done Events remarked, “After the overwhelming success of the first Meet d3 in 2015, we as Done Events were tasked with the challenge of transforming what was originally a launch event for d3 into its own stand-alone festival in 2016 that would continue to raise the bar on what the power of creativity can achieve in the UAE and beyond. Even the changed landscape of the now active and bustling Dubai Design District meant that we were working with a whole new set of parameters, including an event space that had quadrupled in size and dozens of d3 creative partners that we wanted to incorporate into the fabric of innovative experiences seamlessly.”

The event programme also included 36 of d3’s own creative partners, alongside some of the most innovative activations for children, including TapeScape by Eric Lennarston, Ototo’s Playable Room, Audi Heroes in Training, HIPA’s Soorah Challenge and Sketch Aquarium by TeamLab.

“With an event like Meet d3 that is itself a celebration of creativity, the whole Done Events team feels a creative responsibility to bring our absolute best ideas and execution to the table to produce an environment where the participants can truly shine,” added Sonu B, Production Manager, Done Events, “To deliver that wow factor while managing the countless logistical elements behind the scenes is a creative challenge that we are especially inspired to tackle for Meet d3.”

Managed by Done Events, this 3-day festival saw over 50,000 people attend. The event hosted art installations, activations, musical performances, F&B, kids’ activities and more.
