Phase 1 Events and Experiences Nikhil Chinappa Oum Pradutt
The news of year-end EDM festival properties Vh1 Supersonic and Sunburn moving from Goa to Pune came as a shock to music lovers who thronged from across the globe to unwind at the sandy shores of Goa. However, newly launched property, WonderWall is giving EDM enthusiasts some reason for celebrating, again! Thus, continuing the year-end party tradition at Goa for EDM fans.
WonderWall Festival is the newest music IP to join the EDM bandwagon of the country and is the brainchild of friends – music entrepreneur and DJ Nikhil Chinapa, Goa-based entrepreneur Shailesh Shetty and Oum Pradutt, Founder of Phase 1 Experiences headquartered in Bangalore. The festival has been envisioned as an intimate gathering for the bohemian Indian, amidst swaying coconut trees and in the company of friends, free from the trappings of mass festivals.
With a limited capacity of just 1,200 people, Wonderwall hopes to focus on what made Goa special to thousands of dance music fans – not just from India but around the world – and also recognises the efforts of the dance music community that has propelled the Indian music scene as one of the world’s most exciting new markets. “I have been going to Goa every December since 1991 and I didn’t see any reason for things to be any different this year,” says Chinapa, who will host the three-day beach festival.
“Ever since we have started playing the big festivals in Goa, we have lost out a little bit on the randomness, discovering hidden tucked away parties, listening to DJs you had never heard before. All of that got co-opted by the Facebook moment. What we, my friends and I, are trying to do with Wonderwall is go back to the space where Goa was beautiful without being corporatized. I have found a venue that I’d been looking for since we started the festivals. It’s filled with coconut trees, and is perfect for the organic, earthy vibe that we want for Wonderwall. It’s small, intimate and instead of big LED screens will have hand-painted signs, easy furniture and hammocks. And I believe that this year, we will have just the right kind of crowd that values Goa for what it is,” he adds.
Speaking about the festival Oum Pradutt commented, "Our endeavor with WonderWall is to bring the vibe of a traditional, soothing Goa festival back, which in the recent past has been very commercialized. WonderWall is going to be an intimate, boutique festival that will offer immserive experiences to its attendees and will feature one of the best lineups in Goa this year."
Artists Lineup
With appearances expected from some of the biggest names from the world of house and techno, and artists that share a bond with Indian audiences, Wonderwall promises to be an immersive, intimate and enticing experience for dance music fans from all over the country and around the world, perfect for that beach setting.
Playing duties on opening day fall on American producer King Arthur, whose debut album Believe in the Kingdom has been receiving warm reviews alongside house heavyweight Norman Doray and Bangalore-based Rohit Barker, among other names to be announced.
There will also be a special surprise in store for attendees on day two with a special line-up curated by Anjunadeep that includes a special, back-to-back set by rising talent Yotto and Jody Wisternoff. Dutch act Cubicolor, will also be a highlight for Anjunadeep fans.
UK-based house music label, Defected Records will put up a special Defected in the House showcase featuring Grammy Award-winning house music producer Roger Sanchez, Brussels-based house music producer Kid Crème alongside British producer Funkagenda and India’s Aneesh Gera and Nawed Khan.
Wonderwall is scheduled to run from 3 pm to 10 pm at Sunshet Ashram in Ashwem. Season tickets for the Wonderwall will be available on submerge.in for Rs 3375, and will include bar coupons for Rs 500 for each day attended.
