Shobiz Sameer Tobaccowala
Regarded as the father of the Indian events industry, Rehamatali Tobaccowala, Chairman & MD, Shobiz Experiential, recently passed away at the age of 82.
Rehamatali Tobacowala started his career by handling the most lavish and impeccably executed weddings for some of India's leading industrialists. He then later went on to work with several industry biggies and also laid the foundation of some of the first event agencies in the country.
Lovingly known as Rehmat Bhai, he was also noticed by the theatre community who were desperately seeking passionate stage-crafters. In 1974, Rehmatali, together with Alyque Padamsee, worked on the first ever product launch in India for Rexona. This milestone is acknowledged by industry professionals across the country as the birth of the experiential communications industry in India.
In 2008 in Goa, at the first ever EEMA (Event and Entertainment Management Association) convention, Rehmatali Tobaccowala was conferred upon with a Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his contribution to the Indian events industry.
To celebrate his memories and a life well lived, a commemorative gathering is being organized by the Tobaccowala family on October 13, 2016.
