YS Design Studio
YS Design Studio designed and producted this stunningly detailed invite for a set of pre-wedding events that took place in Malta.
Instead of the typical initials integrated into the crest or logo, YS Design Studio created a logo with Maltese elements!
The Blue Rock Thrush – the beautiful dainty blue Maltese National bird, seen all year round near the coast and cliffs and was imprinted in the Maltese coins in their previous currency.
The Maltese Centaury (Cheirolophus crassifolius)) – an attractive, pinkish-purple-flowered plant is also the national flower of Malta. Check out how it was beautifully infused in this invite.
The invite was a tiered set of 5 inserts with a fully open-able envelope.
YS Design Studio wove scenes employing typical Maltese motifs (bird, pomegranate, oranges, door knockers, Luzzo–the typical Maltese boat, limestone wall, banners etc.) integrating it with Baroque elements (candelabras, lanterns, arches, carvings, drapes etc.) and ornamenting each insert with the décor style for each event, keeping in mind the visual appeal of each venue.
All the inserts were given a painting/illustration treatment.
You will find glimpses of the Blue Rock Thrush bird – the key part of the logo, in each insert, in one swinging on a pomegranate branch, on a vintage lantern in another, on a floral cord in one, and on the street lantern –to carry forward the logo poetically.
The envelope on the outside is like a painting of the Vallette Grand Harbour with its medieval Fort St. Angelo, a view from atypical Maltese watchtower (vedette) with its characteristic eye carving. The Maltese birds flying high in the blue skies completes the picture!
The Introduction Insert:
The visual is of a typical colourful door in Valletta with its world-renowned sea-facing brass door-knockers(il-habbata).
The Insert For The Sangeet at MCC, followed by afterparty at La Valetta
The auditorium of the indoor venue MCC was being used for the Sangeet and a large medieval hall for the dinner dressed in layers of fabric and floral projections on the wall. Therefore YS Design Studio created a theatrical effect with heavy drapes and the red Maltese festival banner. Stalks of lotuses and the flower Maltese Centaury (also a part of the logo) in the foreground gently hinted at the décor!
The Insert for The Dinner & Dance at Saluting Battery in Valletta
Saluting Battery being an outdoor venue, is the highest vantage point in the capital, with splendid vistas of the Grand Harbour. The décor at this event was very vintage and Victorian- in whites and laces.
As the event was a sundowner, white lace in the backdrop created a translucent effect, shaping the Grand Harbourin a deeper shade of watermark. ALuzzo (Maltese boat) lazing in the waters, pomegranate branches, the limestone vedette (watchtower) alongwith vintage umbrella, musical instruments completed the visual.
The Insert for the Mid-day Feast at Mdina town
Mdina is a fortified medieval town in golden hued Maltese Limestone, with narrow cobbled streets, adorned with baroque street lanterns and sculptures.
The insert had the illustration of the actual entrance door to Mdina, giving a watermark view of the narrow streets. The touristy carriage from St. Paul’s Cathedral square; the Maltese street name signage in white ceramic adorned with Maltese oranges, the blue bird (also part of the logo) perched on the lantern have been used.
The Insert for The Gala Dinner at Palazzo Parisio
Palazzo Parisio is an 18th century palace with a baroque and neo-classical façade and interiors. The event décor hinted at a clubblish look replete with fancy candelabras, chandeliers, feathers etc. and dress code black tie/gowns.
The Malta Travelogue
This travel book on Malta was part of the Invite set, encouraging the guests to carry it to the beautiful island of Malta and personalize it with their own visual memories and handwritten experiences from their Malta sojourn.
YS Design Studio created funky graphic illustrations of all tourist towns and beaches within the islands including the venues; Maltese Cuisine and beverages; festivals and also Maltese motifs in architecture and daily life!
