Rio Olympics Cyclothon
Cheering on Orissa’s women at the Rio Olympics 2016, My City Links and Mo Shahar Sampark organised a ‘Road to Olympics 2016’ Women’s Cyclothon in Bhubaneswar on August 9. The cyclothon was followed by a Sports Quiz at various schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack -- in association with BDA (Bhubaneswar Development Authority), BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation), Jai Odisha (a social intervention organisation), and Bakul Foundation. Both events were managed by Prelude Novel Ventures Pvt. Ltd.
With six athletes (all women) from Orissa competing at the Rio Olympics 2016, ‘Road to Olympics’ was not just a unique way to show the city’s support for Indian sportspersons at Rio, but also an ideal platform to promote sports and women empowerment in all spheres. The event also ensured encouragement for kids, especially girls, to indulge in sports. The Quiz held during the second half of the day, tested their knowledge as well as infused the spirit of the Olympics.
The Women’s Cyclothon, flagged off by Mayor Anant Narayan Jena from Master Canteen Square, saw over 100 participants, of which a healthy amount were women. The sports quiz, hosted by celebrated anchor and quiz master Satyabrat Sanu Ratho, saw over 80 student participants from across 15 schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Bhubaneswar MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Athlete Amiya Mallick, and Olympian Anuradha Biswal graced the event and felicitated the winners.
The cyclothon, followed by a sports quiz for kids, was organised by My City Links & Mo Shahar Sampark as a token of encouragement for female Olympians from Orissa at Rio.
