Since its inception in 2007, the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup has grown into one of the most thrilling 2-wheel spectacles in the world. The Rookies Cup has previously released new stars into the world of Grand Prix racing, as both Moto2 and Moto3 World Champions in 2015 were ex-Rookies cup riders. And since then every year, the level of competition has climbed and this year's intake raised the bar yet again for the 10th running of the Cup.

The first qualifier of the Red Bull Road to Rookies was organized last weekend and saw seven talented novices between the ages of 13-17 exhibiting their skills on two wheels, in the first non-elimination qualifier at Chennai’s MMRT race track. These young riders will now compete against each other in the second round of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup qualifiers, which will be held next month.

The most talented racer from the six races held in the two qualifier rounds will go on to represent India at the qualifiers of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Spain in October this year. There was also one young racer from Sri Lanka as a part of the races, representing Sri Lanka for a shot at the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup.

The Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup programme is held alongside the Suzuki Gixxer Cup 2016.  A first such championship for this age category, seven racers from across India, between the ages of 13-17 were selected, with the help of Suzuki, to compete.
