YS Design Studio

YS Design Studio created this absolutely innovative and intoxicating invite for the Youngsters for Parth Jindal for his 3-day nonstop ‘extreme’ party at Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur which was followed by the much talked about Vienna wedding by The Wedding Design Company(WDC) by Vandana Mohan.

The events were a series of mind-blowing surreal parties, each different from the other, yet woven together with a shared feeling of euphoria and frenzy. Therefore each insert of this fabulous invite exuded a different vibe!

Research and findings gave the design studio various combinations and versions of LSD and its other common names, and a complete analysis of the visual distortion and effects of each type of the drug – Yellow Sunshine, Zig Zag Man, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Back-Breaker, etc.

The cover with the dots was iconic, as dots is another word for LSD! It was made with a 3D illusion effect.

The first insert was made for a bright and effusive ‘kitsch carnival’ affair with global and Indian retro bands playing, evoking nostalgia. Therefore the insert was themed The Yellow Sunshine (an original ‘happy’ daytime LSD dose) which is marked by vivid colours, distorted reality, flashbacks and tingling in the fingers and toes. Bright oranges, reds and yellows with kitsch motifs and forms were used for this insert.

The second insert was for an evening soiree, and was inspired by Zig Zag Man (the most hallucinogenic LSD) characterized by illusionary spirals, wave interference and bizarre graphic patterns. Hence, elements used by YS Studio included bold graphical patterns and forms, blacks and whites, with a tinge of crimson.

The third insert for a chilled out daytime poolside event on January 16 was inspired by Lucy in the sky with diamonds (a ‘slow motion’ short-lived dose  of LSD) exhibiting sudden 'moments of eternity' and timelessness, and a sense of being drifted weightlessly. Interestingly, soft aquas, with hot air balloons, forms and clouds in vintage look were used to create a dreamy look.

The last insert was for an event inspired by the ‘Burning Man’ festival in Nevada, the most overwhelmingly insane yet dreamlike psychedelic experience, with fire players.

Therefore, Back Breaker (the most potent and long lasting LSD) was taken as inspiration. This version of drug induces a nonstop psychedelic experience of hysterical patterns and bursts of light, as if in a swirling motion, a feeling of ‘hearing colours’ and ‘seeing sounds’. An aggressive flash of colours and fire patterns were used to bring out the theme.

The initials L,S and D were ingeniously employed for various collaterals and effects, carrying forward the concept at every stage.
