Saiesta, India’s premiere etail studio designing clothes exclusively for women, partnered with the ‘Ek Initiative Caddy Match’ held at the Qutab Golf Course in New Delhi on May 25, 2016. While Golf is a fairly popular game in India, there is hardly any awareness about the importance of caddies to the sport. The charity golf tournament sponsored by Saiesta.com was organised by Saieshwar Oberoi, a 17 year old noted golfer, for the welfare of caddies, considering how integral they are to golf players.
The long work hours and modest wages do not do justice to the kind of effort it takes to be an efficient caddy, particularly as they assist their patrons through long hours in the summer heat lugging heavy bags and clubs. As a mark of appreciation for their efforts, the initiative was undertaken for the benefit of caddies who form the soft underbelly of the billion dollar sport of golf in India.
Not regulated, the caddies have no social cover and no government organization to help them. It is not surprising that some of these caddies are excellent players of golf, having spent most of their lives on the golf courses. The charity tournament was organized to provide them with the right incentive to improve their lives. The event ‘Ek Initiative’ was organized in the heart of the capital with Ex-captain DGC, author, and golf aficionado, Ramesh R. Kohli as the chief guest.
Commenting on this remarkable initiative, Rajat Sikka - Marketing & Finance Head at Saiesta.com, said, “We are honored to be a part of such a wonderful initiative. Sometimes we forget to acknowledge people around us. Saiesta will always stand up for unsung heroes in our society and will always #GiveItBack! It is a pleasure for Saiesta to sponsor this golf tournament which encourages youngsters to give back to society.”
