The Lakme India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 concluded with a dramatic grand finale showcase by Rohit Bal at Mumbai’s iconic St.Xavier’s college premises on April 3, 2016. Unlike most shows, the facade of the historic building serving as a backdrop for the glamorous show had every reason to share the spotlight along with the designer’s stunning creations and his showstopper, Kareena Kapoor Khan. Popular media verdict is that the venue and lighting were the true showstoppers at this year’s LFW S/S Grand Finale. Rohit Bal returning as the LFW finale designer after 2012, gives the credit to Lakme, as Purnima Lamba, head of innovations at Lakme wanted a well-lit backdrop that blends with the show. 70EMG roped in Splat Studio to execute the impressive projection mapping. Hitesh - Director, Splat Studio, said; “We were asked to work with motifs and elements that match Rohit Bal’s grand finale designs. Generic elements that represented ‘illumination’ were also used to create the visual language.”
Delhi-based couturier Rohit Bal who is celebrating his Silver Jubilee in the Indian Fashion Industry had collaborated with Kareena Kapoor, who is the face of Lakme, for the first time. The Grand finale collection themed ‘Koroshini’, which means ‘to illuminate’ in Urdu, featured fabrics ranging from handloom mulmuls to rich silk velvets, with crafts like Shibori hand crinkling and organic dyes.
The projection mapping for the backdrop was a unique show in itself and blended well with the ensembles on the ramp, rendering a truly magical ambience for the evening. Here's more visuals from the show:
