Eric de Groot, a Meeting Designer from the Netherlands and co-author of “Into the Heart of Meetings” will visit Amsterdam on May 24 - 25, 2016 to conduct a Meeting Design Training Course for meeting professionals and communication experts.
Meeting Design, a relatively new profession, deals with planning and executing meetings as a specific means of communication, just like newspapers or television. The work of a Meeting Designer is to bring content, objectives, and participants’ expectations together and to design the programme in a way that makes it effective, engaging and conducive towards the organizational objectives.
The course will focus on the basics of designing meeting programmes and is designed for meeting professionals who want to exert greater influence on meeting outcomes; communication experts who want to improve their understanding of the medium; change agents, and consultants who want to use meetings effectively.
Meeting Design provides the methodology that allows you to move from believing in ROI to actually achieving measurable outcomes. To produce outcomes that cause behaviour change, you need an in-depth understanding of meeting processes and how to influence them. This course will offer exactly that.
Naturally, much of the course content is based on the book “Into the Heart of Meetings”, written by Mike van der Vijver and Eric de Groot. This first-ever book on Meeting Design has received worldwide attention and acclaim.
The several pieces of methodology in the Meeting Design course are directly aimed at the day-to-day practice of Meeting Planners, organizers, and consultants who earn a living from making meetings better. The course is not a long list of tips and tricks but it has its fundamentals in the way we understand meetings.

A typical reaction of a learner in the course is: “this course gave me a totally new perspective on meetings. Not the logistical approach but far more interesting: the human perspective, where psychology meets business, where joy meets targets, where solid organizational skills meet solid creative skills.”
Here are a few responses from attendees on the impact of the Meeting Design course:
“I applied my new skills in the first project that came across: the Meeting Owner was surprised about the clarity of the way I helped them to choose a Venue.”
“After this course, I decided to completely change the focus of my proposals: from hospitality to results, because being nice to people is a given, creating results is what counts!”
“I love to think about content. Now I know how to apply that in my work for clients. It gives me a better position in the design process, is already my very first experience after a week"
The focus of the course impact is on the following three fields:
The conversation with the Meeting Owner: The course gives you tools to do a far better job there.
Creativity: Not something that relies on the Muse, but has its roots in a good analysis.
Formats: Finally, the door opens to new energetic and interactive ways of sharing knowledge, building relationships, and producing business quality.
The Meeting Design Training Course is also open for attendants from India. The course will be held on May 24 - 25, 2016 at the ICCA Head Quarters, Netherlands. The course fee will be € 995 + VAT(Includes one copy for each participant of “ Into the Heart of Meetings” and two lunches). A special price is available for ICCA Members.
