Red Bull Hauz Khas Kenny Dope
Kick-starting his India Tour in the capital on Feb 17, prolific artist and four time Grammy nominated musical genius, Kenny Dope belted out some of his best-known hits spanning his 25 year tryst with the music industry. Bandstand at Hauz Khas reverberated with his signature house, hip-hop, Latin, jazz, funk & soul, reggae, alternative pop, and broken beats.
The evening began with Kenny Dope addressing his audience for the Red Bull Music Academy session, moderated by Nick Dwyer. Dwyer has an extensive career in music journalism and media, and is best known for his acclaimed Red Bull Music Academy documentary series on Japanese video game music – ‘Diggin’ In The Carts’. Supporting acts Soulspace and Jitter, set the tone for the night with an hour-long set each, before Dope’s performance.
Mixing it up nicely, with some current beats with his signature old-school hip hop and a serving of house music, Dope ensured the dance floor stayed packed through the evening. The night ended with the audience heading home in the highest of spirits, while Dope was quite humbled with the existence of a fan-base he had not anticipated. The tour continues at The Humming Tree in Bangalore on Feb 19, followed by blueFROG in Mumbai on Feb 21.
