Mumbai’s Ballard Estate will now be an open venue for event companies and corporate bodies to organise ground events. Creating history of sorts, the swish South Mumbai commercial nucleus known for its British lineage and architectural magnificence, will open up for the first time to host the Ballard Estate Festival - an initiative by The Mumbai Port Trust, managed by Ferriswheel Entertainment.
With a focal aspiration of being viewed as the largest lifestyle and cultural extravaganza ever witnessed by Mumbaikars, the festival will be conducted on every Saturday and Sunday, from 11am - 11pm, every weekend until May 2016. After which, it will close its doors to the general public for a span of 4 months during the monsoon months. The festival will once again gain momentum starting Oct 2016 till May 2017 and will be standard for 3 years, starting from this year.
Imbibing the spirit of a street festival and incorporating more than 100 retail and food & beverage options, the festival will be something that Mumbai has never experienced before. Apart from the major gourmet fiesta, it will also include various interactive elements such as musical concerts, movie promotions, exhibitions, performing arts showcase, contemporary art shows, heritage walks, and flea markets. In several leading cities of the world, business districts are converted into entertainment zones on weekends. With the launch of Mumbai’s Ballard Estate Festival, Mumbai will be placed in the league of those cities where work is taken as seriously as leisure.
The Ballard Festival will have five zones dedicated to different forms of experiences – a huge food court, entertainment including live arena, retail point, kids zone, silent zone (theatre and after parties) and much more. Factors like sanitation, pollution etc. have been specially taken care of. The event is all set to commence from Jan 23, 2016. The Minister Of Road Transport & Highways Of India, Nitin Gadkari will be the Chief Guest Of Honour at the inauguration on jan 24, followed by a performance from Sanam Band.
Covering a carpet area of 4000 sq mt, the festival will also include special revelry on holidays like Valentine's Day, Maharashtra Day, Republic Day, Holi, Easter, Gudi Padwa, Shiv Jayanti and Makar Sankranti. With state-of-the-art production, the festival will see high decibel live performances by Nucleya, Anish Sood, Indus Creed, Raghu Dixit Project, Bombay Bassment, and Shaair N Func.
Ravi Parmar, Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust elaborates, “Several cities across the globe have been successfully organizing unique entertainment experiences in business districts over the weekends and are very well received. Through this festival, locals as well as tourists will get a whole new experience of entertainment making the Mumbai life more vibrant and adding zing to the already available mundane options for recreation. Special care has been taken keeping factors like security, cleanliness etc in mind.”
Shubhra Bharadwaj, Founder & Creative Director, Ferriswheel Entertainment adds, “The idea is to use Ballard Estate's large open spaces to create a distinct venue every weekend for the people of this city and give them a lovely place to go to. The crux of the festival is to give the common man an assortment of leisure indulges to choose from that cater to a family audience which are affordable and yet very niche every weekend. We aim to draw in audiences up to the range of 3 lac persons over a period of 6 months. The entire festival has been organized in just a span of 3 months and we have employed a huge team for the same.”
Mumbai-headquartered DNH Media has won the mandate to handle the global PR duties for the Ballard Estate Festival. Jashoda Madhavji, Director, DNH Media said, “DNH Media is an identity borne out of passion and productivity. The agency is seeing dynamic growth in a competitive market in a very short span of time. We aim to bring our core philosophy of ‘creative commerce’ to the Indian PR landscape while pushing our company plans to grow globally.
