Nipman Foundation in association with SALT Experiences & Management Pvt. Ltd., organised the Equal Opportunities Awards 2015 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, on Dec 2. An initiative to recognise companies and institutions that promote employment for the differently-abled, the event served as a platform to appreciate the efforts of three companies this year - Yum! Restaurants India Pvt. Ltd., EMC Corporation, and Vindhya E Infomedia Ltd.
Zomato and UBER also received certificates of appreciation for their efforts in assisting the differently-abled community. Zomato was recognised for adding the ‘wheelchair-access’ filter to its restaurant profiles, while UBER is launching UberASSIST, India’s first radio paratransit service for the disabled.

The book, “No RED Card for the Disabled”, written by Nipman’s co-founder and Disability Rights Activist, Nipun Malhotra, was also launched at the event by Chief Guest Shashi Tharoor and Nipman founder Priyanka Malhotra. Apart from the award presentations, differently-abled children also put up musical and dance performances for the entertainment of the guests. A blind student from Delhi University recited Dohas, while underprivileged kids put up a singing performance. However, the highlight of the event was the enactment of the national anthem by deaf and dumb children.

CSR partners for the event, SALT, was responsible for designing and executing the whole event. With only an hour for the set up, the SALT team had undertaken a lot of pressure to execute a flawless event. Sumati Bali, Sr. Group Head - SALT said, “We are proud to partner with Nipman Foundation for the Equal Opportunity Awards. I think it’s an amazing platform to recognize organizations that promote employment of differently abled people. We hope that the platform encourages and sensitizes more organizations to provide a barrier free opportunity to all. The passion we saw in kids who performed clearly indicated that physical disability is just a state of mind.”

Nipman Foundation, founded in 2012 by social entrepreneur Priyanka Malhotra, is an organization working to make India a barrier free country for the differently-abled, giving equal opportunity for all.
