The production team at Wizcraft, Bengaluru had a challenging task on their hands as they set out to build a mammoth AC hangar in a school backyard for the launch of the Toyota Sanitation Program in Varanasi. Takeshi Uchiyamada, Chairman, Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan was present to inaugurate the company’s sanitation project, in line with the Government’s ‘Swachh Bharat – Swachh Vidyalaya’ campaign. The day also marked the inauguration of high-tech water purification unit in Basani village near Varanasi.
Yours truly was roped in by Wizcraft to host the proceedings. The brief was clear - to deliver zero-error, perfect execution. After many months I was asked to deliver a show in scholistic Hindi, something I enjoy doing.
Some events are high on stress due to the presence of Union Ministers, high ranking government officials and corporate Leadership Teams, and require experienced event professionals in command and an equally experienced crew. I am glad the client followed these basic testaments whilst deciding which agency and artists to go with.
Aimed at curbing school drop-out of girls due to lack of sanitation facilities, the project provides access to hygiene sanitation facilities in all Government schools, across Varanasi. The event that marked the handing over of the project to Ram Gopal Mohle, Mayor, Varanasi Nagar Nigam was graced by the presence of M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation; Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Environment & Forest; Manoj Sinha, Minister of State, Railways; Kyoichi Tanada, CEO, Asia and Middle East Region, Toyota Motor Corporation; Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor; Naomi Ishii, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor; and Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman and Whole-time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. Also, present on the occasion were Yutaka Kikuta, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan; Dr. Jagannath, President, IHPBA (International Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association); and Dr. Maya Singh, School Head, Government Girls Inter College, Maldhaiya.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation said, “Good sanitation is critical to good health and is critical for the overall growth of a student. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Toyota Kirloskar Motor for extending its support towards critical issues such as sanitation and hygiene in our schools.”
Addressing the handing over ceremony, Takeshi Uchiyamada, Chairman, Toyota Motor Corporation said, “I whole heartedly support the ‘Clean India’ initiative. Toyota is proud to be a part of such unique nationwide initiative which has various benefits to the future growth of country. ”
The entertainment at this event featured dance performances by students of the school. One of the performances presented the myriad dreams of the girl child.
The event was executed smoothly. Relief engulfed us all, both the crew and the corporate team. On my way to the airport, I celebrated with a Paan Banaraswala. And, I needed the joyful spike after the mind-curdling stress.
Some events need experienced event professionals in command and an equally experienced crew to execute. Anchor, Gitikka Ganju Dhar reports from the event.
