The Encompass Mumbai team has moved into a new 12000 sq. ft. space on Andheri West Link Road, defined by its open format and free-from-rules energy. The Delhi office has also been revamped entirely to follow the same principle and design language.
Why the emphasis on the open-format? Sukrit Singh, CEO, Encompass explains, "This is all in line with our people's programmes. We've found that the individuals that work at Encompass are like round pegs in a square hole. We needed to cater to them and their need to be in an environ where they feel like their hanging out, and can work easily in teams, rather than be put in departments."

The Mumbai office opens into the seemingly biggest area, which is an amphitheatre, dedicated to recreational activities and 'hanging out' within the office.

Teams get to work around large tables, and there are no fixed spaces for anyone, each person just seats themselves wherever they feel like that day, or amongst whichever team they need to work closely within.
"The stress is on collaboration. we want to encourage energy, synergy and ideas. This open culture is the only way to get that going. We also want to encourage our stakeholders to come and work from our space. Everyone's Welcome!" elaborated Singh.
The total strength of the Encompass teams across Mumbai and Delhi is now close to 300 team members, with 120 in Mumbai and 180 in Delhi. An area in both offices is dedicated to a 'Think Cafe' which is only for brainstorming. The cafeteria conveniently converts into a bar in the evenings, and can host a rocking party.
"The idea of an open-office came from Sukrit when we were discussing doing up the new office. So we started to collect pictures and made storyboards of the spaces we liked. We worked with an architect Bodo, who helped us achieve this look and feel," explained Chanda Singh, VP and Business Head, Encompass - Mumbai.
The Encompass Mumbai office also hosted a Gearhouse session recently, which was a roaring success. The central amphitheatre has already played host to a series of entertaining and participative sessions in its one short month of coming into being!

The management have kept the focus around building an environ for teams to work creatively rather than having the rigid structures of departments.
