Wedding photography and filming have come a long way over the last decade since 2002, the year when Badal and Raja Jain started doing wedding films only the concept of 'shaadi ka video’ existed.

According to the dynamic duo clients were pleasantly surprised seeing their style of film making and photography with big broadcast cameras being put to use! They did not use any additional lights and started shooting with big zoom lenses from a distance, thus capturing the real spirits in a never seen before fashion. However, today clients are definitely willing to invest much more than ever before in wedding photography and filming.

The ace wedding film maker and photographer duo tell us about the evolution of wedding film and photography in India, the art of capturing once in a lifetime moments and how it is done for the rich and the famous.

Raja said, “With the wedding industry having grown leaps and bounds, the role of wedding film and photography has expanded significantly.

It is important to know that although the wedding film and photography market is and always was seemingly saturated; a promising talent with freshness to offer will always find a place.”, added, Raja.

Speaking of a large scale project that Badal Raja Photography worked on in 2014, Badal said, “2014 has been a very eventful year for us, more so because we were entrusted upon to do a grand royal Wedding film for the prince of Udaipur, Shri Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar with Princes Nivritti Kumari Ji. The magnanimous wedding was on a mammoth scale, making this project different from anything we had done before.

The celebrations were spread over 5 months with over 60 events at the family owned royal forts and palaces.

“It was for the first time that we participated in dress rehearsals of the procession which were meticulously planned and orchestrated to the minutest detail. The sheer magnanimity of the events called for us to hire services, of a European aerial cinematographer to give us panoramic shots of the grand celebrations.” said Badal.

Bringing out another very crucial aspect  Badal Jain stated, “I feel that one must always appreciate the fact that wedding is a very intimate event. Speaking of celebrities, due to the nature of their business, they have to be under the media scanner most of the times. However, wedding celebrations remain to be their private affair and they have complete authority to decide their respective limits including what they wish to share with public at large.”

“Having shot the weddings of Bollywood celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Esha Deol or billionaires like Sunil Mittal, the Hindujas or even royalties like Shree Arvind Singh Ji Mewar of Udaipur, it is imperative that we respect and guard their privacy the most.” said Raja.

According to Badal and Raja, usually, they sit down with the family and take a note of their preferences and contractually bind themselves to assure the client utmost trust and confidence. Thereafter, based on the contract they share these private moments with only the client’s pre-determined media sections.

Speaking of working on celebrity weddings, Badal explains, “Nowhere do these restrictions ever pose any hindrance to our work because clients leave no stone unturned to ensure that the wedding planners facilitate our coverage enabling us to deliver to them, the beautiful memories for a lifetime. At times, certain protocols do get a bit tricky but that is where the smart communicator's skill wins over the camera person's approach!”
