Similar to the Razzie Awards concept, Ghanta Awards celebrates and rewards the worst of the Bollywood industry. The 3rd Annual Ghanta Awards took place on Feb. 15 at Enigma, JW Marriott, Mumbai in the presence of over 250 guests. This year, seeing the potential and popularity of the property, INvision Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. not only executed the entire show but also bought a majority stake in it.
Founded by Karan Anshuman and Prashant Rajkhowa in 2011, the award show is currently in its third year. Along with the organizers, Shruti Seth, Gagan Takyar and Jinesh Shah played the gracious hosts for the evening. Noted personalities such as Sanjay Gadhvi, Danish Aslam, Roshan Abbas, Maria Goretti, Arshad Warsi, Sahil Mane, Sandhy Mridul, Satyadeep Mishra, Ankur Tewari, Gaurav Kapoor and Arunodhay Singh came forward boldly to support the cause.
Sorabh Pant along with his team of The East India Comedy enthralled the audience with their stand- up comedy and wit on the film industry. Speaking about the platform, Karan Anshuman, Founder, Ghanta Awards said: "It was the lack of a refund mechanism in place that prompted me to start the Ghantas three years back. There are more than a dozen film awards to reward the good films but how many to reward the worst of Bollywood? So we started our own show."
The jury consisted of Rajeev Masand, Entertainment Editor & Film Critic, CNN-IBN; Karan Anshuman, Film Critic; Sudhish Kamath, Film Critic and Sahil Rizwan, Film Critic, TheVigilIdiot.com. The winners were decided though online public voting.
Award categories this time saw a few funny options such as ‘Thats Anything But Sexy', ‘WTF Was That', ‘Worst Song', ‘Worst Couple' and many more. The Ghanta Awards is solely shaped by online voting by the public. The ceremony was also hosted by the stand up comedians wherein the awards and nominees were interspersed with skits. The entire show was streamed live on YouTube making it all the more challenging for INvision Entertainment.
Speaking about the property, Gagan Takyar, Director, INvision Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. said: "The principle was simple: Every year, Bollywood takes our hard earned money and countless hours of life only to leave us feeling older, poorer and supremely frustrated. The Ghanta Awards was created as a means to give back to these films, to give back to these film makers and to make them understand that they needed to try harder."
He further said: "Ghanta Awards was on a larger scale this time. There were a number of celebrities who attended the event. Ghanta Awards is now on Wikipedia. Ghanta's twitter page has 1,963 followers. The turn-out of the celebs in itself showed that Ghantas has gained good popularity."
Executed by INvision Entertainment, the platform celebrates and rewards the worst of Bollywood.
