Road Safe India’s memorial wall pays tribute to vehicular casualties

Road Safe India, a public service initiative conceptualised by Ice Global, is a call to increase public awareness and participation in the need for road safety. It aims to empower people to take ownership of making the roads in India the safest in the world. In connection with this objective, Nov. 18 saw the announcement of the launch of an online memorial wall to mark the occasion of ‘World Day of Remembrance for Traffic Victims' on Nov. 20. On this wall, Road Safe India will pay homage to the memory of those who lost their lives on the roads. Road Safe India aims to use this forum to highlight the fact that not only are precious lives lost, but entire families are devastated by this calamity. It will also serve as a reminder that life is valuable, and it is in each of our hands to protect it.


Commenting on the initiative, Pramod Gaikwad, Director, Ice Global said: "Born out of a desire to give back to society in an action-oriented way that will save the lives of others, Road Safe India aims to be an on-going, multi-media, multi-language campaign that will impact people of all walks of life, across India."


The Road Safe India campaign is designed to be an on-going, proactive endeavour that will optimise mass media tools to become a platform for action. Spread across training programmes, on-ground activities and direct contact programmes, it aims to reach out to people from different walks of life and forums like schools and educational institutes, driving institutes and bodies, communities, corporations, etc., over a decade-long plan.


Daunting facts have shown that over 1.2 million people are disabled for life every year in road accidents, and India records the world's highest road death toll and accounts for 15 per cent of the world's road fatalities. Supporting the cause of promoting road safety in India, creative agencies like Network Advertising and Optimystix Entertainment India Pvt. Ltd. have also collaborated to pledge their support and extend their creative expertise to drive visibility and impact through innovative media.


This wall was launched to mark the occasion of ‘World Day of Remembrance for Traffic Victims’ on Nov. 20.
