The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) organized the 11th edition of the RBS Solitaire Design Awards on Aug. 25 at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Designed and executed by 70 EMG, the event bore the theme of ‘Colour Splash', which extended to stage design, space design and content.
The RBS Solitaire Design Awards 2012, which was attended by about 600 people, was held to felicitate the winners of the Jewellery and Stall space design competition. The competition was divided into two sections - Competition A for IIJS domestic and international exhibitors, and Competition B for non-exhibitors, students, artisans, designers and so on.
Bearing the same theme as the finale evening, the designers had to bring their artistic skills and creative expressions to the fore and create designs that were a stunning amalgamation of colour and jewellery. The creations received were evaluated by a jury comprising Dr. Usha R Balakrishnan, the only art-historian of Indian jewellery in the world; Sunil Datwani, proprietor of Gehna Jewellers; Farah Khan Ali, GIA-trained gemologist and designer; renowned painter Bose Krishnamachari; and fashion photographer Vishesh Verma.
Commenting on their appointment, Snehal Shetty, Project Manager, 70 EMG said: "We received the mandate for this event on the basis of a multi-agency pitch process. This was the first time that we have managed this event, right from the conceptualization to the final execution."
Highlighting the theme ‘Colour Splash', the element was woven into the event across various elements including the invitation card design, set design, and even the costumes worn by the models to display the winning pieces of jewellery. The models walked the ramp, displaying the pieces, to the tunes of a live performance by pianist Stephen Devassy, saxophonist Rhys Sebastian and percussionist Gautam Sharma; a musical collaboration effected exclusively for this event by 70 EMG.
Remarking on the event, Aanurag Dhoot, Director - Exhibitions & Trade Promotion, GJEPC said: "The motive behind The RBS Solitaire Design Awards is to bring out the hidden talent of the real designer behind every piece of jewellery and felicitate them. Also, we chose 70 EMG for this event because of the great working relationship that we shared with them in the past and the unique artist options they proposed, who performed brilliantly at the event."
These awards will be telecast on the television channel Zoom shortly.
The awards, attended by 600 people, took place on Aug. 25 at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.
