Sunburn Hills, the 10th edition of the biggest EDM property of the country delivered yet another stunning edition of the festival at Kesnand district, in Pune from December 28-31, 2016. This was the first time, when the festival giant had moved out of its home in Goa after its dispute with the Goa government came out in the public eye.
In a brief interview Harindra Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, Percept Limited, speaks to EVENTFAQS Media about the experience of hosting the property in Pune, the growth of the property and the plans ahead.
How was the experience of hosting the first Sunburn in Pune?
In one word, 'mixed'. Due to wrong perceptions and resultant protests and opposition, we did have a few hurdles to overcome. But thanks to the support from the administration and the Maharashtra Tourism Department, we did eventually create history.
Sunburn 10 was perhaps the only large festival in the world that moved its home to an unknown venue and still got success. We are thankful to all the undying love and support from the fans and also thank the entire government for their support.
Percept had previously revealed that they were investing INR 30 Cr. on this edition of Sunburn. What was the profit that you were able to derive from the festival?
We made money, and that's a big achievement. How much doesn't matter. Especially after losing large amounts of money in Goa for 3 consecutive years from 2013 - 2015.
Sunburn 10 generated around INR 1.4 crores as direct revenue to the Government. And also engendered business of about INR 250 crores for the region via Food & Beverage, Transport, Hotel accommodation, and other miscellaneous expenses incurred by the festival attendees. The hotel industry in Pune recorded a surge in both rates and occupancy during the festival week. It was a win-win scenario.
What can fans expect from the Sunburn Brand in the year 2017?
We have successfully launched a new brand extension ‘Sunburn Echo’ which was a live stream of the Sunburn 10 Festival with a live Emcee, DJs and SFX to give audiences in 5 cities spanning Jaipur, Raipur, Guwahati, Ahmedabad and Vizag a real time experience of the festival in Kesnand. The very first edition saw a total attendance of over 20,000 fans.
We were also live on Facebook, for the first time ever. The response has been amazing. The Live stream on Facebook received a massive response with a reach of 55 million, 69 million impressions, 8.5 million views. The total live stream was 1,052 minutes covering 22 artists. This was a massive engagement activity over the 4 days of the festival and will be augmented in the year ahead.
Your comments on the support received from the Maharashtra Government for the festival.
Absolutely amazing. This is what large tourism oriented events need. A special thanks to the Collector, the Police department, and everyone else who supported us.
