The International Clown Festival in India will be held from November 6-13 in Mumbai. The event will be conducted by Mad Hatters, the family entertainment division of Light House Entertainment.
"The idea behind the show is to promote Clowning as a lucrative career amongst the youth in India. The event will aim to make India the next Cirque du Soleil venue and is also a platform to develop and encourage youngsters to become a clown," informed Martin D'souza, a professional clown and Director of Light House Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
"I have been performing for 20 years, and I know that people look down upon clowns. So I wanted to showcase to the Indian audience that clowns are highly respected," he added.
The International Clown Festival will have 12 professionally trained clowns from USA, Europe, Canada, South Africa and Malaysia. The festival will include theatre shows which will be held at St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra in Mumbai as well as mall activities across the city. As part of an outreach program, the clowns will do a show for around 800 street children for the NGO Child Lines on November 14.
The festival will also allow upcoming clowns and enthusiasts to participate in workshops where they will learn balloon sculpting, Mime, Juggling, Comedy and Acrobats. These workshops will be held in schools and colleges. Courtyard Marriott will be the hospitality partner of the festival.
