As part of 60th anniversary of Japan-India diplomatic relations, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and Indian designer, Narendra Kumar, unveiled India's first ever ‘Cool Japan Festival', which is being at High Street Phoenix in Mumbai from March 16 to 18. The Cool Japan Festival, which is open to all, brings the life of Japan closer to the people of Mumbai.

A total of 29 top Japanese companies and 70 plus Japanese business representatives are flying in from Japan especially for this occasion, spanning the animation, contents, beverage, food, stationary, gifts, toys, and media industries. They are also meeting Indian corporates for exclusive business networking sessions on March 15 and 16.

The festival is witnessing India's first ever interactive robot show, the Wadaiko Drums show with 12 drummers, the Rakugo Comedy Storyteller show, the Kimono Dance Show, a Dragon Show, together with the first all India Japanese anime cosplay competition, where young Indian anime fans are dressed in their favourite anime character's costumes. Unique Japanese products including food, technology and stationery is also on display.

Commenting on the festival, a METI spokesperson said: "Further to the Joint Statement Vision in the 60th anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations agreed by both Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Prime Minister Singh in Delhi in December 2011, the strengthening of cooperation in creative industries such as the Cool Japan Festival in Mumbai, the first event of its kind in Mumbai, is encouraging. We hope that this festival will take Japan-India relations in the creative industries much further ahead in future years, and that more Indians will understand and appreciate the amazing array of creativity that Japan has to offer to India."

Meanwhile, Anna Bredemeyer, Vice-President, Marketing, High Street Phoenix said: "We at High Street Phoenix are honoured and excited to support the ongoing building of the long lasting Indo-Japanese relationship. Thanks to the Land of The Rising Sun's rich culture, Mumbai's favourite destination will have the privilege of hosting 'Cool Japan Festival' for all its patrons, this being one of the year's most exotic festivities."

Anuj Jodhani, Director, Maidoindia, who has assisted METI in organizing this event, said: "We have been promoting Japanese culture in India for over four years and are so pleased to see Japan come closer to India in such a big way through the Cool Japan Festival. We hope that more and more Indians appreciate the amazing culture and products that Japan has to offer."
