The objective of organising the Indian Engineering Congress was to contribute towards the progress of the country in the area of engineering and technology by creating a forum for engineers to exchange their experience, views and advances.
The theme of the event was 'Towards Prosperous India: Challenges for Engineers'. The venue was inaugurated by Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka's Major and Medium Irrigation Minister; Murugesh R. Nirani, Minister of Heavy Industries, Karnataka; and L.V. Murali Krishna Reddy, Chairman of the Organising Committee, IEC 2011.
The exhibition comprised of about 120 stalls and 10 conferences, held in the span of three days, that educated entrepreneurs, business professionals and heads of engineering institutes on topics such as aerospace, mining, etc. The event claims to have engaged around 3,000 people per day.
Speaking about the event, Ilyas Aktar, CEO, iDreams Events and Entertainment said: "This event has been moved on to a larger scale this year as. until last year, it was held in engineering colleges owned by the property, which engaged 800 to 1,500 people. This was a multi-agency pitch and we were given the project based on our credentials."
Coal India was the title sponsor of the event. Associate sponsors were Diageo, the Karnataka Government Organisation and NAL, among others. The sponsors benefited through on-ground visibility at the entrance and in the venue through banners.
