German Film Orchestra Babelsberg to pay tribute to A. R. Rahman
Thu 19 January 2012
Classic Incantations, the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg performs A.R. Rahman, is a historic five-city concert tour scheduled to take place from Jan. 20 to Jan. 29 across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. This concert is presented by Lapp India, a manufacturer of cables, connectors, cable glands, conduits and accessories in India, under the aegis of the Year of Germany in India. The concert is scheduled to take place at Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA, Mumbai. Rapport Global Events is responsible for managing the production, including the technical requirements.

The concert tour marks the centenary year of both Studio Babelsberg and Indian Cinema, that started out back in 1912. This concert is taking place under the aegis of ‘Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities', which is a 15-month collaborative celebration of 60 years of Indo-German diplomatic relations.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Marla Stukenberg, Director, Max Mueller Bhavan and initiator of this project said: "This event is a special contribution to the year of Germany in India, a celebration of 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The concert tour particularly highlights the cultural connections in a very special way: the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg is the first Western classical orchestra performing the music of world-famous Indian composer A.R. Rahman in his home country."

Commenting further about the association with Rapport Global Events and Lapp India, Stukenberg added: "We work closely with Deepak Ghattani and his team. It is a highly professional event agency with rich experience in executing huge events. With regard to Lapp India, being in a business of cables, it's natural for Lapp Group to partner with Classical Incantations as it establishes a strong connect for the cultural, trade and bilateral ties as part of the ‘Year of Germany in India' and the infinite opportunities of boosting connectivity between the two nations."

Orchestra Babelsberg, based in Potsdam, Germany, and students of the KM Music Conservatory, Chennai, will perform orchestral interpretations composed by A. R. Rahman along with some evergreen compositions. Holger Schwark from Germany is responsible for the sound quality and sound design of the orchestral event.

Shedding some light on the association with the property, Deepak Ghattani, Managing Director, Rapport Global Events said: "Besides promoting the concert through print and radio, the concert is being promoted through a tie-up with Radio Mirchi and NDTV across all their three networks and through digital mediums. We have co-conceived the ideation of the concert." The concert aims to attract more than 12,000 young Indians who are liberal and culturally sensitive to accepting new forms of expression through art, culture, music, literature across all the five cities.

Contributing to this joint effort, Andreas Lapp, Chairman, Lapp Holdings said: "We feel that it is extremely significant to be associated with this event, as we believe that culture has the ability to travel across boundaries and make its way into the hearts of people all over the world. By participating in this event, we hope that this stage serves as a platform to help further strengthen ties between India and Germany, leveraging music revered by the two countries as the bridging medium."
