Soon, you could be watching short films at a restaurant, or in a flight
Fri 15 May 2009
'Filmbooth 08 Emerging Festival of Short Films', organized by Forum For Films, a community of short film makers, was a short film festival held in December last year, in Delhi. The best short films from the festival were screened at Oxford Bookstore in Delhi on May 9, at an event titled 'Evening of Short Films'. Organizers plan to take the screenings to Oxford Bookstores across the country. ForumForFilms is looking to increase the awareness and reception of short films in India through these screenings. Organizers also plan to make Filmbooth a national affair in 2009. Sumit Nanda of Filmbooth is confident that the response from viewers and sponsors for a property on short films would increase in the coming months. ;We want to establish the culture of short films in India, and in this age of globalisation, we are confident that as people do not have much time they need to be entertained in a very short span of time to be attracted to any proposition. Brands have also started realising this, and are partnering with us for the same, said Nanda. Swatch was the principal sponsor for Filmbooth 2008, with support from Tehelka and the Indian Habitat Centre which hosted the festival. The initiative at Oxford saw a decent turnout, according to organisers. ;Considering the space restrictions we had, I think it was a good response from the audience. Now, we are finalising the dates for taking the property to other stores of Oxford across the country. The property is sponsored by Oxford Bookstores. The Evening of Short Films; in Delhi was inaugurated by documentary filmmaker Amar Kanwar. Besides speaking on short films, he also showcased two of his films. 18 films were screened at the event over two hours. Nanda expressed confidence that the medium (short films) would see a growth in interest in India soon. He said, ;We are at various stages of discussions with restaurants, NGOs and airlines to showcase movies suited for their audience at their premises, as events or as in-flight entertainment. Organisers; plans to take Filmbooth 09 across India will depend on the amount of sponsorship that is generated. The event is scheduled for December 2009.
