Second edition of TEDxGateway celebrates the power of ideas
Thu 24 November 2011
Those who want to get past the talking and begin the doing will, very soon, have the chance to spend a day with global innovators, the doers of the world who make a difference to their communities and their professions. On Nov. 27, NCPA, Mumbai will host the second edition of TEDxGateway, an independently organized TED event, where 18 ideators will share their ideas and innovations in India for the first time.

TEDxGateway's mission is to reach out and inspire people to learn, share and discuss ‘Ideas Worth Spreading' that have the power and potential to make a difference in our lives and our world. TED will make headway into various aspects and industries and talk about how to take innovative ideas forward in a country with such great diversities and the potential to be the next super power in the world. The first edition of TEDxGateway gathered some of the best creative and active thinkers from across the globe.

Comprising of explorers, storytellers, photographers, scientific pioneers, visionaries and provocateurs from the world over, this year's speakers will share insights predicting and shaping the future of technology, creating and implementing ingenious solutions to global problems, and innovating in technology, business, science, design and arts. Some of the speakers are Ryan Lobo, photographer; Raghava KK, a celebrated emerging Indian artist; Jo Johnson, Member of Parliament and Contributing Editor of the Financial Times; and Mallika Dutt, President & CEO, Breakthrough, a global human rights organization. Attendees at the conference will also listen to Narayan Krishnan, an Indian chef turned social worker who has served freshly baked meals to over 1.7 million people as of August 2011; Julia Silverman, whose 15 minutes of play with the Soccket Ball can generate three hours of electricity; and Suneet Singh Tuli, the brain behind the world's cheapest tablet ‘Aakash'; among others.

They will also get to enjoy a performance by multi-instrumentalist Prem Joshua, who masterfully blends the roots of Indian raga music with elements of contemporary lounge and jazz, and Sofia Jannok, the voice of Sweden, singing Sami, which is music based on inspiration from people, connections, heaven and earth.
