As part of the campaign, Sandesh is making paper bags from its own old and discarded papers. Starting June 20, Sandesh will be distributing an estimated 50,000 newspaper bags to various stores like Levis, Westside, United Colors of Benetton, Status Quo, Nike and other national and local corporate and retail outlets that are participating the campaign.
The campaign is being promoted through print and special content in the newspaper. Individuals, retail stores and NGOs have come together to give an impetus to this activity, propagating shopping with environment friendly bags. This is a CSR initiative where the paper bags are made by NGOs like Blind People Association and Approach, Ahmedabad.
The campaign has begun to receive maximum response from the people to save earth and nature from the harmful effects of plastic. Commenting on the campaign, Parthiv Patel, Managing Director, Sandesh Group said: "As a leading newspaper, it is our responsibility to educate and inform our readers. We received an overwhelming response in our tree planting initiative and now this campaign to promote paper bags from recycled paper further reaffirms our commitment to the cause of creating awareness about environment protection amongst our readers and people of Gujarat."
