SPT Sports organises 8th Super Max 8s Corporate Cricket Tournament
Mon 02 July 2012
SPT Sports organised its eighth State Bank of India Super Max 8s Corporate Cricket Tournament on May 28 at the SPT Sports Academy, Bangalore. The event was conceptualized and launched by SPT Sports in 2008 and has garnered support from many corporate teams.

This year's SBI Super Max 8s event saw participation from top 20 corporates, namely Tata Consultancy Services, Nike, GE Oil & Gas, Gartner, Motorola, Continental, State Bank of India, Schneider Electric, Infinite, GE Functions, Grameen Koota, SPT Sports, ACI World Wide, OPI Global, Continue Serve, Embrace Global, Infeniera, Empower, McNally Engineering and Unitus Capital.

Commenting on the event, Kanishka Saran, Vice President, SPT Sports said: "We introduced this event in early 2008 as there was a growing demand from corporates to participate in a unique format. There is a lot of strategy that is involved on the ground thanks to the ‘Max Zone' and ‘Wild Card Player' options. The event has seen growing interest from companies and is held twice a year. We limit participation to 20 top corporate teams for every edition."

The idea behind the SBI Super Max 8s is to encourage corporates to participate in sports events and showcase their cricketing talent. It aims to provide a different platform for engaging the corporate houses, along with their families.

Speaking about the association with the event, K.M. Trivedi, General Manager, State Bank of India, Karnataka, said: "We are delighted to be associated with the Super Max 8s format. Corporate sports have been growing in popularity for quite some time and our objective was to be part of a well-established corporate sports event. This event provides us with a great opportunity to connect with our audience. The association is also part of our continued support toward the growth of sports at the local level."

Saran further added: "This provides an ideal platform for corporate cricketers to showcase their talent in an organized event. Audience numbers have also been on the up, with colleagues and family coming out to support their teams in numbers."

Repeat participant, Infinite, emerged victorious as Cup Champions with the event concluding on June 23. The final day prize distribution saw noted TV celebrity and sports commentator, Charu Sharma, giving away prizes to all the winners.
