This activity consists of a series of matches wherein in each city, different regions will compete against each other to win the GPL cup and cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The campaign is aimed at all cricket crazy fans who are passionate about winning the GPL cup for their area. The competition is open to all participants aged 18 years and above.
Commenting on the objective of this initiative, Ashit Kukian, COO, Radio City 91.1 FM said, "Radio City always looks to recognize talent in its cities be it through Superstar Singer, Navula Don or City Ke Kaminey. With Gully Premier League, we add to the cricket fervour and gusto ruling the minds of our listeners and connect with them on-ground. With this event, we invite local cricket teams across the streets of India to fight against each other for the ultimate GPL trophy."
The activity began with registrations taking place from May 1 to May 11. Players could register on air, via SMS, or by logging onto www.planetradiocity.com. Registered teams across the city are shortlisted down to eight qualifying teams on the weekends of May 7 and May 14. The quarter finals between the eight teams will take place on May 21, followed by the semi-finals and finals on May 29.
Speaking about the future of the property, Kukian added, "We received an overwhelming response with 4,000 teams registering in the first four days of the activity. We will be considering making this as an annual property."
The property is being promoted through a mix of online, on-ground, print, outdoor and on air promotions.
