Racing fever hits Mumbai with the Signature Premier Indian Derby
Fri 03 February 2012
The city of Mumbai is braced for the return of the biggest sporting and glamour event in the country, the Signature Premier Indian Derby, which will take place on Feb. 4 and 5 at the Mahalxmi race course. The derby weekend will see performances by international fashion couture artist Adam Saaks, tributes to Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and the Bee Gees, an artistic mixture of body-percussion, tap dance, hip hop and break dance by Sheketak, and a performance by lady magician Katherine Mills.

Leading up to the derby weekend is the ‘Breakfast with the Champions', a media-specific campaign to reveal interesting information on the routine in the day of a Signature Premier Indian Derby champion. At this event, the real champions of the derby - the thoroughbreds - are brought into the limelight for the first time. This campaign, conceptualized by USL, gives a sneak preview on what goes behind the making of a winning horse.

This event sees the horses gearing up for the main race as the jockeys take them on their final spurt, while the trainers clock them to check the best time they make before race day. The race horses are put through vigorous training schedules ranging from running on a treadmill to cooling down exercises in the swimming pool. They are groomed and fed with specialized mixes.

Guests at the event also get a firsthand look at how these athletes travel from one city to another in specialized floats. As with all athletes, the type of shoe can be all important, and another interesting part of the event is watching the horse put on their final shoes for the Signature Premier Indian Derby.
