The Auto Expo 2012 has around 1,500 participants from 24 countries and is witnessing participation of every major automotive brand operating across the globe. The total pavilions booked by German car makers at Pragati Maidan covered maximum space, while Tata Motors is expected to have the largest stand at the expo. The German car makers had their sets designed abroad.
While Showtime designed the stalls for BMW, Encompass did it for Mercedes Benz. Encompass, in partnership with Meroform, also executed the Hyundai pavilion. Meroform, along with Imagination, executed the Tata stall. The Bellset team, which designed the Chevrolet space, had everything from live entertainment to dancing robots. Sound.com provided the sound technology for Yamaha and BMW and helped with the Mercedes Benz pavilion.
The 11th edition of Auto Expo is based on the previous theme, ‘Mobility for All', with emphasis on green technology. Auto majors and component manufacturers will focus on safety and importance of eco-friendly sources and vehicles through futuristic technologies and creative designs.
Billed as an event to showcase new environmentally friendly vehicles entering India's auto market, about a dozen new hybrid, electric or alternative-fuel vehicles were showcased at the bi-annual expo. However, most of these cars, trucks and buses are decades away from gracing India's roads, said officials.
The new brands that are lined-up for display include Paccar from Netherlands, Ssangyong from Korea, Triumph from the U.K., U.S.A.'s Polaris, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Motor Home and Nissan's latest brand. Moreover, the brand Vespa that operated in India ten years ago is coming once again in a revamped form.
This time around many motorcycle manufacturers such as Harley Davidson, Ducati, Yamaha, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors stole some of the thunder from Ferraris and Jaguars.
