“This is the IRFW's first year and already it has become a grand success”
19 December 2011
The Indian Resort Fashion Week (IRFW) is India's only beach fashion festival and took place this year in Goa from Dec. 7 to 11. The IRFW 2011 was presented by Ink Infrastructure, in association with Yuva Magazine and powered by Provogue. EVENTFAQS' Rachel George spoke with Nikhil Oza, Director, IRFW, to find out more about IRFW and the idea behind starting it up.

Why is now an appropriate time to introduce the Indian Resort Fashion Week (IRFW)? What kind of a market does India have for resort wear?

The time is right now as nobody has entered this niche market in India, which has a huge coast line of 7,600 sq. kms. and a huge demand and value for creation of these kinds of fashion.

What led to the extension of the Fashion Week into the Fashion Festival?

The beach is where you would like to rejuvenate. Post the fashion show, we wanted to make the success more grand for the IRFW team and my audience to get the feel of Goa and have a gala time at the beach by dancing to the beats of world famous DJs from Designer Hippies.

How do you see this event performing as compared to its international counterparts?

This is the first year of IRFW and already it has become a grand success. It is a class apart from other international events and is incomparable to any event due to its uniqueness.

Will the Fashion Festival be combined with the IRFW for future editions?

Yes, the fashion festival will very much be an element of IRFW's future editions.

How were the sponsors for this event decided upon?

The sponsors were decided by the core team of IRFW. As this is a niche brand, we gave only elite sponsors the opportunity to come on board with us.
